Both EVEN and ODD functions are associated with symmetry.
The differences are:
f(x) = x^3 - x
f(-x) = -x^3 + x
You can check to see if a function is even or odd looking the graph or finding the relation beteween the x and y values.
Some families of function are always even or always odd; even like cosine function and absolute value and odd like sine function.
The differences are:
- EVEN functions are symmetric and so algebrically f(-x) = f(x)
- f(x) = x^2/(x - 4)(x + 4) = x^2/(x^2 - 16)
- ODD functions are symmetric but flip over and so algebrically f(-x) = - f(x)
f(x) = x^3 - x
f(-x) = -x^3 + x
